Finally, after so many months, the Rotaract Club of Belize has finally composed all the activitites the club has done for the Rotaract year and is ready to share with the public! Our journey shall begin at August!
Hurricane Preparedness Presentation/Discussion (August 5th)
On August 5th, Councillor Wayne Usher of the City Emergency Management Organization (CEMO) and
Mr. Dennis Gonguez, the Chief Meteorologist at the Meteorology Office gave
presentations that focused on Hurricanes and the Hurricane season. Councilor
Usher presented on the responsibilities of CEMO and the plans they have set up
in case of a Hurricane threat in Belize, while Mr. Gonguez’s presentation
focused on the formation and tracking of storms and hurricanes, along with
viewing a few satellite images of hurricanes.
The presentation was well
attended by members. Members engaged in a riveting discussion with the
presenters, and it’s pretty safe to say that after all was said and done, the
members of the Rotaract Club of Belize are more aware and knowledgeable about
hurricanes and how to deal with any storms that may threaten Belize.
Eat-Out Social (August 12th)
Sixteen members of the club
went to Madda Fish Restaurant, located in downtown Belize, to have a great
dinner and socialize with each other while enjoying their food. Dinner
consisted on three courses, appetizer, main course and desert, and there was a
variety of food to select from such as pasta, lobster, and grilled chicken just
to name a few. The members surely left the restaurant that night with a full
and content stomach
Bake and Used Clothes Sale (August 13th)
The Rotaract Club of Belize
aims to please…….your sweet tooth that is! On August 13th, the club
has its first Financial for the year with a Bake Sale. Many members showed off
their baking skills by donating treats for the sale. Some of these tasty treats
included cakes, pies and brownies to name a few. And we took consideration for
all our customers who may need a drink after walking around in the sun by
having juice on sale.
Alongside the bake sale, there
was also a clothes sale. Items included men’s, women’s and children’s clothing,
and price were as low as $1.00!!! If you weren’t downtown that day, or didn’t
stop by, you surely missed it.
Smiling Pictures (August 17th)
Members were given the task to
submit a picture of them smiling. The purpose was to state a positive reason of
why they (the Rotaractors) were smiling, and additionally, it was a great way
to go down memory lane for many. This
project was suggested by the Rotaract Club of Butwal. Pictures can be viewed on
Facebook by clicking on this link:

Financial Assistance Program (September 2nd)
“Education is all a matter of building bridges.” – Ralph
Ellison. Children have the right to an education, but many may not have the
necessary resource to be provided with an education. The Rotaract Club of
Belize knows how important an education can be. The club provided financial
assistance, along with school supplies, to 3 children.
Brian, Carlos and Kayla
Medina, Standard 5 students at Calvary Temple Primary School, received
uniforms, text books, school books and stationeries needed for the new school
year, as well as an agreement that the club would pay for their tuition, feed
program and school fees. Their mother, Ms. Claudia Chi, was present to sign the
agreement. Afterwards, snacks were served and members were able to socialize
with the family.
Special thanks to Carisa,
Herschel, Kristy and Michael who kindly donated stationeries. Here’s wishing
the children the best of luck this school year and hope that with our help, the
bridges are easier to build for them!
Canned Food Drive for Hurricane Relief (September 16th)
Hurricanes are unpredictable
and can hit our country at anytime, so our club has taken precautions in
advance to help others who may need it. In preparation for the hurricane
season, the Rotaract Club of Belize has taken upon itself to set up boxes to
help collect canned items for those who may need it.
On September 16th,
these boxes were prepared and delivered to four of the city’s main
supermarkets. These supermarkets are: Brodies (downtown and Northern Highway),
Bottom Dalla, and K-Park Supermarket. We are asking anyone who sees these
boxes, to kindly donate items canned food or any other food item that will not
expire easily. If there are no hurricanes that hit our precious country, the
items will go towards our annual Christmas baskets. Keep in mind, a little bit
can go a long way!
Rotaract Float in Belize Independent Parade (September 21st)
September 21st,
1981. The day that our country finally got our Independence! One activity our
country has to commemorate this important date is to have its annual 21st
September Independence Day Parade. Over the past few years, the Rotaract Club
of Belize has decided to be a part of the parade, and this year was no
different! Members, prospects and guests alike came out to decorate and be a
part of our float, and distribute sweets, as we rode down the city of Belize.
This is one of our biggest Publicity projects of the year; a projects where we can
promote our club to the Belizean community.
Stella Maris Feeding Program (October 6th)
One of our major community
service work that we do is donate money towards the Stella Maris Feeding
Program. However, on this date, our club decided to take it a step further.
Rotaractor and Secretary, Darryl Henry, paid a visit to the school to assist
with the Feeding Program. He reported that it was “a great feeling” and that
the students “were well mannerly and organized”. Our club will begin to make
this become more common, so that we can also be an active part of this program.
1 Truth, 1 Lie (October 7th)
Vocational Projects are aimed
for Professional and Leadership development. But there are more than one ways
to develop as a person. Before the conclusion of our meeting, the club had a
vocational activity, entitled 1 Truth, 1
Lie. In this activity, a person was to give two facts about themselves, one
that is true, and one that was made up. The other members were to decipher
which was true, and which was a fib. The purpose of the activity was for
members to learn a little more about each other, and in the process, grow a
little bit closer
Rotaract Heat Trivia (October 14th)
Rotaract Heat Trivia, a fun
game to get the competitive juice flowing, but more importantly, a way to test
Rotaractor’s knowledge, as well build on what they already know. October was
the vocational month, and to continue from the previous week’s activity, the
Rotaract Club of Belize had a Heat Trivia during that week’s weekly
meeting.
Two teams were created among
the present Rotaracts. These teams were: The
Cool Crew(Giselle, Adrienne, Michael, Shauna, Andrea, Phillip) and 18 (Richard, Mr. Woods, Kristy,
Kristen, Hugo, Leannie). It was a fierce competition, but in the end, The Cool Crew came out on top. There
was no doubt that everyone came out as winners, as members were able to refresh
or learn new and old information pertaining to Rotaract.
Restore Belize Presentation (October 21st)
Ms. Marie Munoz, the Public
Outreach Officer for Restore Belize, attended our meeting to give our club a
presentation on what Restore Belize’s mission is all about, and some of the
ways in which they have contributed to the city. It was a very exhilarating
presentation, and the club seemed to be very much into the presentation. In the
end, Ms. Munoz was awarded a certificate of appreciation. Hopefully, sometime
in the future, the Rotaract Club of Belize and Restore Belize can work on a
project together.
Go Green Project (November 12th)
A Rotaract Club in India
proposed a project to all Rotaract Clubs to plant 10,000 trees (collectively)
as an International Belize. On the 12th of November, members of the
Rotaract Club of Belize went out to plant trees at different locations. Places
where plants were planted were the KHMH Pediatric Ward Park, and our recently
adopted, Roses Park. Special congratulations to all members who showed up to
assist in this project! It was hard work, but it will go a long way. Photos can
be viewed at the following link:

Garifuna Social (Black, Yellow and White) (November 18th)
In order to commemorate
Garifuna Settlement Day, the eve before the actual day, our club had a social.
Members were asked to dress in Black, Yellow, White or a combo of these colors
to represent the flag. Also at the social, one member made Sere for the club to
enjoy. It was a wonderful social, and without, all in attendance surely enjoyed
themselves.
And there you have it! A list of all our activities up until November! We've been hard at work and still are. Keep checking in for more information as this month progresses!
